Isuzu D-Max Electric preview
The all-new Isuzu D-Max Electric has been unveiled at the 2025 Commercial Vehicle Show in Birmingham; in what they are dubbing Europe’s first all-electric, fully-capable commercial pickup. Orders for the upcoming pickup will open in Q2 2025, with the first UK deliveries expected in March 2026.
Launched in 2021 for the second-generation, the current D-Max platform has been modified for electric drive system, including the housing of the 67kWh battery. The D-Max Electric isn’t, however, the first electric pickup in Europe; it follows in the footsteps of the Maxus T90 EV (a one-tonne payload but only two-wheel drive) and Maxus eTerron 9 (all-wheel drive but only a 650kg payload).
EVT’s high level overview:
- Available as extended cab or double cab
- Two trim levels (similar to DL40 and V-Cross)
- 66.9kWh NCMA battery returning 163 miles (WLTP – Combined)
- One-tonne payload and 3.5-tonne towing capacity
- 188hp combined output; 0-62mph in 10.1 seconds

Isuzu D-Max Electric Battery and Motor
The 66.9kWh NCMA battery returns 163 mile on the WLTP Combined cycle (224 miles on the WLTP City cycle), which we imagine will fall short of many operators’ requirements as 200 miles is now becoming the industry standard for LCVs.
Isuzu has used NCMA batteries, which are lighter than their LFP and NMC counterparts, to help maintain the one tonne payload. With an operating voltage of just 350v, the charging speed peaks at just 50kW and painstakingly takes an hour to charge from 20% to 80%.

The dual motor with full-time 4×4 configuration has a combined output of 140kW (188hp) and 325Nm; 43kW (58hp) and 108Nm at the front and 97kW (130hp) and 217Nm at the rear. Reaching 62mph in just 10.1 seconds, we believe this is the fastest Isuzu to ever go on sale in the UK. In addition, there is four-stage regenerative braking and an ‘eco’ mode to increase efficiency.
Off the road, ground clearance has reduced slightly to 210mm with approach and departure angles of 30.5° and 24.2° respectively. Interestingly, the wading depth has also reduced on the EV variant, from 800mm to 600mm.
Isuzu D-Max Electric Towing and Loading
Productivity has always been a major strength of the Isuzu brand, and the electric D-Max is certainly no exception. With its lightweight NCMA (Nikel, Cobalt, Manganese and Aluminium) battery, the D-Max EV weighs in at just 2,350kg and – although the gross vehicle weight is yet to be announced – Isuzu has stated it will have a one-tonne payload – a respectable achievement in the electric pickup sector. There’s great news regarding the towing capacity too, with the electric version matching the ICE’s 3.5 tonne ability – although gross combination weight is also yet to be announced.
Equipment Levels

Isuzu is clearly aiming this pickup at the owner-operator market, with two trim levels similar (yet to be announced) to the current DL40 and V-Cross.
The standard model will feature chrome styling, an 8-inch touchscreen display, heated front seats, Bi-LED headlights, leather-style upholstery, dual-zone climate control, front and rear parking sensors, Rough Terrain Mode, and a 6-speaker premium sound.
Upgrade to the top-spec model, you will receive a larger 9-inch touchscreen display with an extra two speakers, and a more distinctive dark grey exterior styling.
Ride and Handling
Although we’re yet to test the new model, Isuzu has claimed the new model is more refined thanks to the new De Dion suspension at the rear and the quieter electric motor – resulting in 10% reduction in cabin noise and vibration level under full acceleration.
Isuzu D-Max Electric Price and Availability
Although the Isuzu D-Max EV price has not yet been announced, we estimate* it will be priced from around £50,000 plus VAT with a £2,000 to £3,000 premium for the high-spec model. Order books for the D-Max EV are set to open in the second half of 2025 and the first deliveries in March 2026.
*Estimation based on the current specification and prices of Isuzu UK products, and cost and size of NCMA batteries.
